ICE News and Discussion / Re: Locating "Lost" Authors to Bring Back "Lost" Books

Just posting to confirm that I am the Dan Crosby from Arms Companion (author, not an artist). I *might* be able to track down Chris Dumit as well, if needed.

Thanks for showing up here.  :)

The name is a bit funny. For my online part, I use ObsidianPortal, which also uses Markdown, but I don't think has anything to do with Obsidian.
Yeah I know about ObsidianPortal and I understand the similar name can be a little confusing which is why I added the .md part at the end.
I tried ObsidianPortal a while back and found it wasn't to my liking.

The information I found in both Character Law and the Shadow World Master Atlas indicates that Akbutege should be sO2. The herbs for concussion relief with codes around at least cH6 might be Cusamar (Character Law) or Anneke (SWMA), but they heal more than Akbutege due to the greater difficulty.
Thanks! I haven't had the time to go through the books to find it myself but was wondering about the differences.

HARP / Folkways

Is there a thread that talks about Folkways?  I'm thinking of getting Folkways.  Maybe at the end of the next month, yes.

First off I have a spreadsheet that I think I downloaded from the ICE vault a long time ago. This spreadsheet has every single herb in RM and MERP listed in it. I copied that spreadsheet and pasted it into my preferred campaign manager which is Obsidian.md. I then found my copy of Hands of the Healer from MERP and am working on adding the descriptions from Hands of the Healer to the file in Obsidian.md. I found a discrepancy though in the first herb Akbutege.
In the book it says the herb is found in wetlands about two weeks following an extremely cold part of the winter with a Difficulty of Very Hard. I took this as meaning the codes to be: cH6 (cold, Heath/scrub/moor, and Very Hard to find). But the info in the spreadsheet has sO2 (semi-arid, Ocean/saltwater shores, and Easy to find), which is just about the complete opposite of what I have and what the Hands of the Healer describe.

Can anyone please clarify this for me as to what I should go by and which book I might find the correct info in?

They could also both be correct.  It could be two different plants.  It's not unusual for multiple plants to have the same common name.

How much would you willing to pay for having the rules in markdown?

I already have the rules in markdown.  I covnerted them to markdown to upload them to roll20.

This conversation also got me to thinking about what could be copied to a campaign manager website. I guess that's the gist of this whole thread. Several months back I bought SM Beyond the Core module to help complete my collection. If I wanted to add certain data from that module to my campaign site, wouldn't it be verboten? For example, what if I wanted to copy the basic system information from page 18 regarding ABRAX 6 F9 V. Even though it would give the players something helpful to read about the system, I believe that I cannot copy that information and put it on the website; having to opt for my players to buy the module to read it for themselves. Maybe some kind of fair use standard, or maybe some kind of restricted SRD, would be helpful. Please forgive my attempt at legalese; I have not idea what legal maneuvers would have to be made.

RMC/RM2 / Re: Combat with creatures that act as a group

However, how does a PC attack a group of 100 ants, for example. It obviously cannot be one attack per ant.
For this I think its one of those that is a GM judgement call, after all its not really combat but rather... ant control.
It could be a given that 100 ants are killed per round if the PC uses a flaming torch.
If using their boot, much less, say 30. (This could make things worse if the ants rush out of the nest! e.g. 'jumping bull ants')

If the ants are on the character's body... this is more of a RR to brush them off than an attack.

Another example: A 30 gorcrows attack. Their attacks are grouped in trios. Can you swing your axe and try to brind down more than one gorcrow?
Yes. RAW could use RM2 V Multiple Attack Proficiency - Multiple Opponents (sweep). If you determine the gorcrows are in the arc of a sweep attack then the PC can do this attack on 2 or more of them depending on their skill with the weapon. (1st 10 ranks x 5 for 1st target, 2nd 10 ranks x 2 for 2nd target -20, left over x 1 for 3rd target -40 plus usual modifiers).

In a recent encounter, a PC was attacked by 10 leeches that sneaked into his armor while wandering a swamp. I ruled that the removal of each leech using his axe was a maneuver. If he wanted to remove more than one leech per round, the maneuver difficulty increased.

So, what are your thoughts.

This sounds good. The maneuver could be based on first aid skill.

The information between different settings is not necessarily consistent. ICE writers back in those days often reused names without necessarily reusing the complete description package and context.

In short : when playing in Middle Earth, use the MERP reference. When playing in Shadow World, use the SW reference. When playing in an original setting, pick one or the other, or come up with your own.
