2 DP, but we use a "No Profession" system where all skills cost 5* and most cantrips are part of starting vocation packages in character development. I don't think any of the players have taken cantrips after that.

Oh, interesting, I would really like to see how that system works!

I considered playing an all 'No Prof' game, with Cultural and Professional Packaged from EA to predispose characters towards certain builds. Ended up dropping it for a MERP like system instead.

I agree I'd like to see the languages cleared up a bit.

Here is the little bit I put together on languages. I was going to use this as the base for a more detailed language tree, but at the least wanted to establish the core root languages. The assumption is that Elvish languages are going to be more cohesive over spans of time due to the "immortality issue".

That's some useful background. The recently published player guide also had some stuff on them too, but IIRC it lacked a language tree that would help me to visualize the descent of the languages.

SW Armor chart: special materials and/or cultural armor types. This uses RMU armor types and our simplified encumbrance rules:

Nice, lots of great ideas in there. I am inspired to go through my own setting's bestiary and figure out what to do with those poor creatures!

Archaeology section from our Master Atlas. I took out most of the tech and artifacts and will collate in another doc. Mostly a simple summary and framework for various civilization tech.

Did you set prices for antiquities? I see "(Insert Antiquities Value table}" which makes me hopeful. :) My players just acquired and sold some elaborate bronze age frescoes and ornamented metal doors, and setting a price for such things is somewhat arbitrary.

yes, there is an "Antiquities Chart"! It's in the Master Atlas chart spreadsheet. I'll look at it tomorrow and post up.

Fun stuff! I found it useful even as a quick history of civilization on Kulthea.

This is fairly old material (10+ years) but not really divergent from canon. I need to update the Jinteni tech from Emer III, the upcoming Wurilis is expected to have details on Taranian tech and Haalkitaine may have updates on Worim stuff below the sewer levels. It's just meant as a "wire frame" for creative development. I posted up an earlier Civilization Summary in this thread that also broke down various ages of each civilization which could broadly correspond to varying tech levels, styles and achievement.

Antiquities Price Chart
« Reply #193 on: March 27, 2017, 03:13:29 PM »
This needs some work, but puts rough prices on mint condition antiquities from the major ancient civilizations by object category. Formatting is bad but its PDF so you can zoom.

I'll have to redo anyway for my setting, but it's useful to see how you've approached it. (Also, the budgets are higher than I want. The example castle in Castles and Ruins is 75,000 gp, which is less than the value you have for one small piece of Ka'ta'viir glasswork. I don't want to give my PCs that kind of instant wealth.)

I did it almost 10 years ago, so it probably needs some adjustment. But this is for the rarest of rare items in perfect condition. The value for glass and pottery are a bit higher since the likelihood of them surviving 100,000 years is pretty remote. This chart goes with another one (Salvage chart) where you would need a 201+ roll to generate one of these items and then check for condition. Even slight damage drops the value 50%.

But these are items that really cause more problems for the group than access to instant wealth. Who do they sell to? How do they reach that market? How do they transport it? How much would someone really pay them? In the end these work better as adventure McGuffins. I had my group tasked by one of the merchant families in Sel-Kai with finding Aldaron's desk chair used in his castle on Votania. They found it...and ended up getting in a battle that destroyed it! After that they had a chance to recover a large fragile glass "sunburst" art piece--and they balked.

That's valid, but I feel like I can tell that kind of story with the amount of money it takes to buy a ship, not necessarily a castle or a small nation....

This is a function of setting of course. I don't have the kind of nobles who have so many castles they don't know what to do with them, and would gladly trade one for a nice antique to put on the mantlepiece. Other settings might. My normal unit of "expensive but affordable to the wealthy" is a warhorse.

In one of the Undermountain supplements there's a gemstone that's so valuable it's basically unsellable (intentionally). That doesn't mean people won't want to steal it. So absurdly valuable items can cause their own problems.

Exactly! Basically this is a chart of "Priceless" objects that I attempt to value. A fools errand. But more importantly, it was an attempt to categorize some basic objects that are just more interesting than "3,240 gold pieces, 2,345 gp of jewelry and 533 gps in gems".
