Title: OIC membership
Post by: ictus on January 19, 2007, 08:16:50 AM
At present there is no formal membership.

However I've just asked Tim if we can have our own user group within the forums and a couple of closed threads.

This would allow us to organise and discuse con games.

so watch this space...

where do I find the O.I.C. grafic to build it into my avatar? Or is the jerk part of the icon?

Edit: found the answer and did it... ;)

An additional group for "us" would be a nice idea.

Exactly, if you want to help you are a member.

There will be a commity of 'elders' formed to help oversee projects, which is something I'm working on with Tim.

so watch this space (or another space round here)

Just for the record, I have requested to be removed as mod for the OIC thread, and will no longer be an active member of OIC.

I hope someone can take over that has a higher diplomacy skill than myself, and may actually get something worked out.

Hopefully you'll be more available for the next TGA layout round.

I'm pretty good at managing my time and will always try to find time for great projects like TGA.

I see there are no takers for the job yet, so shall I give it a job spec...

It isn't much work, you get a new title in your profile, you get basic mod status and you get no thanks, if you are like me you will bash heads with the powers that be, so I suggest those like me don't apply or you'll get a bad head.

To get the job apply to Tim, he will have to approve you as a mod.

Come on someone pick up the baton....

Order of the Iron Crown is like an ICE fan club. It is an opportunity for gamers to support roleplaying using systems published by ICE. (Rolemaster - all forms, HARP, Spacemaster, etc.)  So far we're trying to gamers together with gamers, publish reviews of ICE related products, and working towards something to encourage involvement at various conferences and conventions.  Still working on the details for the last bit.  If you have any other ideas feel free to put them out here....

As far as membership goes - it requires interest in the mission... nothing more.

It's an ice GAMES fan club, as it is the games that are supported by OIC, though the end result is that ICE benefits.

P.S. - I don't need an O.I.C. moniker on my avatar.  Just want to help.

As for what help you can give....

* Run Rolemaster, HARP, SM or any other games made by Iron Crown at conferences, conventions and game days.
* Have your local gaming group (or internet group) do their roleplaying using these systems.
* Act as a living advertisement for these gaming systems

We are still working out some issues to make the first part easier and more effective for everyone.  The second part is completely up to you and your gaming group.

Ideas for achieving the third part:
* Submit resources (adventures, NPC's, add-on's, etc.) to one of the storage sites - such as ICE's vault or one of the linked sites.
* Submit articles to The Guild Companion
* Use whatever web presence you can to help bring more gamers to Iron Crown products.

There are also a lot of other things that can be done. This is an informal group. Welcome.

Can do.  Already have group of five DnDers interested in learning RM.  Right now, they have created their characters, but I am still creating a RM beginners module to run.  Maybe I can do a write up of this first adventure and submit it as a module for running RM beginners on?

YeeeHaaaw!

So do we have T-shirts or anything?  If not I would like to try to design one for Order, with ICE's permission of course.  Just something simple, nothing fancy.  LMK.

I know this is an old thread, but I've been out in long-orbit again. What I personally have done (the last two years) is put out ICE flyers at the largest local convention, DragonCon. It took me maybe an hour to put together the design, tweak it, and print up a big stack (400 half-pages last year, 600 this year). Then I spent a few moments each time I passed a "gimme" table at the con adding my ICE flyers to the offering. Nothing hard, and all it cost me was about $5 for the ream of cool gray paper.

BUT, I did put (potentially) the name and idea of ICE and Rolemaster in front of close to 30,000 people EACH YEAR. Next year I hope to be together enough to run an expo with RMX. Maybe that'd lure Rasyr down from Rome. :)

Rochndil, who has been out of the loop for a long time, but catching up...

Yep this is an old thread, and it would be nice to see it flourish again, I quit as mod here as it seemed to be going nowhere, but perhaps some fresh blood can rekindle a little excitement and get OIC moving again as a way to promote ICE games.

I think I'm a member therefore I am.

I'am quite involved in advertizing HARP these last days. I translated HARP in italian for the Red Glove publishing and now i'am running HARP games in local stores and during conferences!

;D i'am forming a group of Accolites to spread the Word of ICE  ;D ;D ;D

Here in italy there is a good community of Rolemaster and HARP, i hope to get them more involved in creating some free stuff to download and ready to play adventures to use during conventions.

I'am open to suggestions about how running good games for people, i'am sure that here there a lot of people more experienced than me!!

You are already doing all of the right stuff.

When OIC first began (on its own boards) we had (IIRC) a three pronged approach.

1 - Gaming Days / Conferences - Getting involved in either organizing or playing in such events.
2 - Resource Development - Designing adventures, monsters, conversions, etc. to expand the quick and easy to use application of Iron Crown products.  This can easily dovetail with #1 in that creating introductory adventures and premade characters can then be used in game days and conferences.
3 - Internet Presence - Internet banner exchanges, newsletter, webpage, etc.

There may have been more to it or some of this may be off, but it's the way I remember it.
Looks like you have all 3 areas covered.

I've been away for a while, but I've always considered myself OIC since I took it upon myself to convert the D&D crowd over to MERP then RMSS then RMFRP then to try HARP.

Combat Companion will hopefully be our next adoption project.

Perhaps I should look into one of those spiffy OIC logo thingies...maybe the OIC symbol centered in a Black Shield with Silver edging trim...wanders away pondering.

As a spontaneous member of the Order of the Iron Crown, I knight myself official unofficial member!

I don't use the forums as much as I should, but it's hard to drag myself here when I have little to bring to the e-table; I don't have a gaming group yet.  I've been working on reworking the magic system to my liking (while maintaining the overarching concepts of Realms and Elements).

As for joining the Order, I'm the lackey college student who's enthusiastic, but has little power for action; I can't make it to any conventions or such similar things.

But everyone I've talked to about roleplaying has "Iron Crown Enterprises" engraved in his/her brain.  'Twas a bloody affair, but worthwhile!

Just so you know, I haven't forgotten about this.  I've been trying to get the FLGS's in my area to stock ICE for ages now with, I admit, no success.  The biggest problem for me is that miniatures are still the "big thing" up here rather than rpg's.  It isn't as GW dominated as it used to be but it's still there.  People are too busy playing GW stuff, AT-43, Star Wars minis and Monsterpocalypse to bother with any rpg.  Even D&D 4E is only played regularly at one store.  But I keep trying.

and jolt.. I know what you mean... it would be hard to effect a change in these harsh times, but maybe if we did something new and different results could happen...

I wish I could think of something new to try.  One of the game store owners is a good friend of mine and even he won't budge.  RPG's are what you stock after you stock everything else (apparently).  Even games like GURP's, Shadowrun, and Hero System which have all been at least moderately successful and have been around for awhile are only lightly stocked and slowly replenished.

Unfortunately, and this is all me, is that the only day I can really run demos and whatnot for stores is Saturday; and even then only sometimes.  But Saturdays are their heaviest minis day so that makes it tougher.  Sunday is only rarely good and any worknight is right out.

I originally thought the decline in GW sales would be a boon for RPG's but other games, like Heroclix for one, just moved in and filled up the gap.  I'll keep plugging away but I'm at my wits end as to what else to try.  It would be nice if I had even one other person supporting me but I don't.  Oh well, that's life.

Not sure if I'm a member yet, but I'm aspiring to be!

I havn't gone to any Cons in Denmark, but our gaming group have been playing and praising Rolemaster since we first started playing some 15-20 years ago.

Over the years, we've tried other, lesser, tabletop games, but RM is where our heart is.

At the moment we're trying to break into the indie gaming scene, and Rolemaster is stated as the highest source of inspiration. Hopefully this will help steer the lost sheep back into the fold.

Order of the Iron Crown (OIC) was originally created as a concept by the fans with the intent to help spread the word about Iron Crown games.  It tried to exist away from the Iron Crown site, but as it did not want to draw fans away from ICE, but rather to ICE - OIC  was moved to the Iron Crown forums.    We're not quite ready to share the details of the new OIC, but it is coming (and soon...)

The folks at Aurigas Aldebaron understand the value of a grassroots following needing to help it grow into full global fandom.  We will recognize it, encourage it, and support it.  Look for more news over the next month or so...
