Killjoys on SyFy Channel
« on: June 07, 2016, 09:09:15 PM »
I am greatly enjoying this program.  It's about a group of politically neutral intergalactic bounty hunters.  It would make a wonderful campaign for Harp SciFi.  (Law enforcement authority, access to military-grade hardware, and their ship is artificially intelligent.)

Catching up on season one now, because season two starts next month.

I thought I was going to like Kill Joys better, but I actually ended liking Dark Matter more.  Just as good ideas for a Sci-Fi game, but a little less free form.

Yeah, I liked Dark Matters better. It reminded me of Paranoia in Space kind of feel.

I recently watched Dark Matter and have started Killjoys.  I enjoyed Dark Matter a little more but liked them both.  I did find that travel time in Killjoys seemed to be really short between planets, seemed like they were constantly changing locations extremely quickly within a single episode, as in driving to the local convenience time frame quick.

In all fairness, "the Quad" refers to four moons orbiting the same planet.  The moons have been terraformed.

Have any of you watched the "The Expanse"?  It is good and I really liked the books by James Corey.

Yes, I loved the Expanse and can't wait for season two. It put the grittiness into space travel as well as the greed and corruption at all levels.

I think "The Expanse" would make a cool HARP SF campaign!

Over on FB speculation is that it was based on a Traveller campaign (but definitely an RPG see - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/blog/sci-fi-fantasy/the-evolution-of-james-s-a-coreys-space-epic-the-expanse/ ).

But certainly good stuff. Currently I'd say Expanse == Dark Matter > Killjoys (though we have 2 Hard SF vs. one Space Opera [sorta])

That is my current attitude as well, though the only thing that might put Killjoys on par with Dark Matter is Ashmore, I really dig him (the actor, though his character is good too).

My biggest problem with The Expanse is just how frikkin long it is between seasons, I mean it ended months ago and isn't due to restart until 2017! That is just too dang long.

It may have suffered from the problem Rome did on HBO (i.e. they were so afraid it wasn't going to be received well that they didn't commit to the second season quick enough for a normal schedule return).

The Expanse was a little too Byzantine for my tastes. I liked Dark Space, but Killyjoys is my fave right now.  I'm just glad we live in an age where there's enough Sci Fi on TV to have this debate.

I liked Dark Space better last season, but Killjoys definitely started out better this season.  They better get that plot moving quick in Dark Matter, separating the crew like that makes for a slow story imo.

I am assuming you mean Dark Matter when saying Dark Space... 'cuz I don't know any Dark Space show, but I wanna.

PS: I still cannot use any of the emojis or other text editing buttons with my new (&#%@$%&#&!!!) Windows 10 computer. (If you can't tell, I don't like Windows 10, and if I have enough money left over after fixing the kitchen floor and buying a refrigerator, I am getting me a Mac.)

Hmmm. Yeah. Dark Matter.  Brain must have short circuited.  It's getting back into it's rhythm (Dark Matter that is).  I think it was a smart move to 'upgrade' the Android and start to make her as interesting as the other characters.

Dark Matter is excelling this season especially with the writer's willing to shake things up week after week. This past episode (8/12) especially ... Anyone hazard a guess? Time-travel? Parallel dimension?
