Scout Ship Deck Plan re-do
« on: November 12, 2011, 10:30:05 AM »
 I like the Scout ship in the HARP Sci-Fi Extreme book but the deck plan is a little off to my taste. I would change the following things;

1) Move the landing dock to the front. It was pointed out by a friend that often ships will be aiming for the engines and having the landing dock in the rear makes it an easy target.
2) Rearrange the fuel bunkerage to be on 2 or 3 of the decks so as to have space of other mods to follow.
3) Move "ground vehicle" cubicle to lower deck so you do not need as large a ramp to get off ship if the Vee is not grav powered.
4) Arrange it so the gun stations are closer to the normal crew operating decks. Right now it looks as if the gunners have to go from the crew deck down to the cargo-flight deck. Maybe even split the gun stations up so the aft guns are on one deck and the fore gun stations are on another deck.
5) Move some of the crew quarters around so as to provide space for the other things that moved.

What would you move around or customize for your scout hull?

Some Custom Options I might do are;
A) Maybe cut some of the science stations for more cargo and or arms depending on proposed duties, ie patrol boat or x-craft to hunt pirates.
B) Increase or decrease cargo depending on duties, ie use scout hull for pleasure craft that will only tour to and from habitable systems.
C) Add or remove flight deck and ground Vee cubicles depending on mission.
D) add electronic systems depending on mission. ie more scientific mission add some computers, science stations, sample creature cubicles, etc

  One thing I forgot to say was that I love the deck plans as they are a great help in providing visual aid to GM's and players alike.

Might be a factory build vs custom remod issue also.

Also, the deck plans provided are merely examples of each type of ship.

Would people be interested in purchasing an extra deck plan PDF product of different variations or is everyone happy to customise various ships themselves for their games?

Move "ground vehicle" cubicle to lower deck so you do not need as large a ramp to get off ship if the Vee is not grav powered.

Actually, the bottom deck was supposed to be the ground vehicle deck. Somehow I mislabeled the 'side' view image to show both the top and bottom deck as "A" so it got mixed up.

Well, it is a scout after all, not a combat assault ship. :)

2) Rearrange the fuel bunkerage to be on 2 or 3 of the decks so as to have space of other mods to follow.

What do you mean?

3) Move "ground vehicle" cubicle to lower deck so you do not need as large a ramp to get off ship if the Vee is not grav powered.

Noted, that was just a typo so to speak.

4) Arrange it so the gun stations are closer to the normal crew operating decks. Right now it looks as if the gunners have to go from the crew deck down to the cargo-flight deck. Maybe even split the gun stations up so the aft guns are on one deck and the fore gun stations are on another deck.

Well, the gunnery stations forward are right above the bridge. The aft stations are where they are, but they could have been tucked down on another level, i.e. mid-deck or lower deck, if someone wanted.

What would you move around or customize for your scout hull?

One idea I had was to make modular sections that could be arranged according to taste. Kind of a kit of miniature sized deck plans that you could lay-out according to whatever ship design desired.

Joel.lovell;
 I had also thought after a lot of thinking that maybe the craft was designed to float in water so the bottom level would be under water.

 #2) I was thinking that by moving around the fuel bunkerage you could have the gun stations closer to where the crew spent more time. I was also thinking that this was the one thing that could be moved around to fit others where you needed them.

 #4) I like (love) the idea of modular design even though it often results in some loss of space. But for most the ability to modify your craft for specific missions/jobs is huge in the eyes of the captain/military/company/boss/etc.
 For example put in a water module to move marine animals.

BTW, IMHO the designs go a long way to help the player and GM get into the mood of the game.

  Sorry I was not quite all awake when I posted earlier. But do the gunners consoles have to be located right next to the guns? Or can they not be remote? I am not so sure of the tech of HARP Sci Fi so I cannot answer the remote console question.
