brawling, boxing, and slugging
« on: July 27, 2015, 07:14:55 PM »
What skill, if any, would you have players roll to represent a bare-handed fight between non martial artist characters? While the martial arts striking table may work to resolve the results of such blows, I don't think the development point costs for martial arts are appropriate for fighters, paladins, etc. Most healthy, athletic, and combat trained characters should surely also have some skill in fisticuffs or brawling.

So what skill should I use, and what costs should I use? Athletic games brawn?

What's a fantasy adventure without a few barroom brawls?

RMSS has a Brawling skill (in the Special Attacks group), along with Brawling attack table and critical table (in Arms Law).

And Brawling IIRC is an Everyman Skill for Fighters, which reflects the "some skill in fisticuffs or brawling" they should have.

Thank you -- I had not spotted the brawling skill in the special attacks category. Not only is it cheap (2/6) for fighters, but also relatively cheap (2/8) for paladins and (3/9) for rangers. (I'm looking at FRPG Character Law). And for fighters, I would make brawling everyman rather than boxing (per FRPG basic book).

I agree. I have made Brawling Every Man for Fighters. A good skill to develop in my game if you are a fighter.
