Random Updates from Terry Amthor
« on: February 25, 2013, 06:30:37 AM »
Outlining Emer IV now. Yes, this one won't take nearly as long as the last one, I promise. I am also completing the full details of the Dansart citadel in Zor, though not sure where that will be going. What would you like to see next for Shadow World?

NB, I also post on the SW FaceBook Page, and sometimes at my site. Where would you most like to hear about informal SW updates from me, and how often?

Personally, I'd be happy with a stand alone book like the old Fortresses series.

Artefacts and Lost Technology would be good. Also, having the Grand Campaign completed. Oh, and maybe some source books solely about a major organisation.

<...> What would you like to see next for Shadow World? <...>

I would also love to see a "complete Grand Campaign".  Or another long "Beginner's campaign", this is really missing.

<...> Where would you most like to hear about informal SW updates from me, and how often?

I would like to see it here in this forum and (of course) as often as possible :)

Campaigns and Adventures are something that I have a lot of trouble with (absolutely no creativity in the literary department apparently - I spent all my DPs on other things unfortunately) so having more fleshed out Adventures in the source books would be great. The small adventure ideas in Emer 1 & 2 weren't enough for someone like me. Eidolon was a lot better as there were several larger adventures.

A finished Grand Campaign would be amazing and also smaller supplements of just adventures referencing the locations, peoples and maps of the larger sourcebooks would be great. I'm sure there's some writers who can come up with suitable adventures based on the larger source books leaving you free for more source books. :D
(These adventure supplements could be light on details (but pointing the GM to the relevant passages in the large highly detailed source books) thereby not detracting from the sales of the big books).

As for updates, I never visit my Facebook page unless someone's emailed me there so I'd prefer updates through here or the Eidolon site as I have subscribed to both RSS feeds. :)

I'm sorry guys, but my editor and I agree that me finishing the Grand Campaign at this point is probably not really worth the effort because so much needs to be fleshed out. Instead I will take some ideas from it (like the Dansart layout) and elaborating on them. Besides, for those of you who want to finish it on your own, the outline is there.

3 am. Glasses off, contacts in (meaning that I am in for a major session at the computer; I'm a vampire), pot of Earl Grey. Options:

Revision/reformat work:
Emer I
Emer II
Haalkitaine
Eidolon city in the Sky
Cloudlords of Tanara

New projects:
Emer IV (Kaitaine!)
Urulan (scary Elves!)
Dansart Citadel (Evil HIgh Priest!)

Now you tell US what you want; and if you want reissue of the old books, how much change do you want? (Beyond fixing errors, adding color [color cities!], and arranging things in a much better fashion. do you want more material (adventures/updates) and would that add value for you? I must admit that I have enjoyed pulling these old files out of the archives, but I am also writing Emer material tonight, so it's all good.

You asked for updates here, now do your part and comment my friends. You may not always get what you want, but we listen.

I'd like more information on Thuul. According to the Master Atlas a lot goes around there (specially the Alliance). Plot ideas and population/culture details about regions other than Jaiman/Emer would add to my GM tools as well.
I think a lot of information mentioned in the Master Atlas 1 ed. never made it to the newer ones. I always wonder if some of those items/characters/places would change if you were to write about them again.

Thuul is where my 2 favourite 'natural' locations are - the Tower Isle and the Pillar of the Gods. :)

I am thinking that Thuul is the next logical place to go...

I just checked the books. I think all of the characters that I always though were missing, finally made a reappearance in Powers of Light & Darkness. So the only remaining information to republish/review would be the artifacts, places of power and lost technology sections at the end of the addendum of the first edition. Of those, the implementors and anti-implementors are the items of most interest to me, since they seem to change slightly every time they are mentioned.

Oh, that one is sooo easy...
The Loremaster Council Member Yael Ziriv Kari, Page 38 of the Original Master Atlas... She never reappeared.

Then there's the Spell Lists ( well ok, they are available here ), The Isles of Transfer.
There's not much in the 1st Edition Master Atlas about items, but if we extend to the Emer Box Atlas Addendum we have lots of items to play with :
The Starsphere, All the Lord of Essaence items ( come on there's more than Drones and Tya'ar... even if Tya'ar is a fun deus ex machina to have around as a GM. ) , All the Places of Power that have not been described

My main problem is that there's so much information spread over all the books that it's tough to decide what to choose...
When I was actively playing the group I was playing with considered that in a Shadow World book there was a campaign hidden in every phrase.
( including credits and annexes )

So I'm going to stick to my previous list : Artifacts and Lost Technology, Something New From Somewhere That is Not Jaiman Nor Emer.
( ok, I removed the GC as it's obvious you won't finish it  ;) )

Sounds very Conan like, but that is just going by the name.

I prefer to read updates either here or on Eidolonstudio.

As for new material, I'd love to see more about Urulan and Thuul.

I would love to see Thuul as well.

I am never let down by the items you are releasing.  So as long as you keep on writing, I will keep on buying.

Heh I don't know much about Conan, despite having seen 2 versions. I don't remember where I got the name, bit it's a pretty varied place.

Actually made great progress on Emer IV today. Now I need to get back to the old module cleanup for re-release.
