Weapons Size Issues
« on: April 09, 2017, 03:13:05 PM »
If I have a character who is a halfling or gnome, is there anything to stop him/her using a large weapon such a 2H-sword or a long bow? If they can would it be a smaller than normal 2H-sword or long bow and therefore do a smaller crit? (I don’t see anything to suggest that). [I recently generated a gnome ranger and found myself wondering whether they could have a longbow.]

On a slightly related point is there anything to stop a spell caster such as a mage using a weapon like a 2H sword? Mages tend to be pretty rubbish with any weapon so it probably doesn’t really matter much. However is there any advantage to them using a weapon like a dagger or short sword?

Many Thanks

Tim

I don't think there are any specific rules in HARP regarding weapon sizes and creatures sizes. I think there various ideas how that works. Since there's no actual correlation between the weapons attack size and the weapons actual size could be why there's nothing on this.

In my case, I have a house rule where a creature can use a weapon of equal size or smaller in one hand and one size larger two-handed.

I like Dagorhir's house rule. I could find nothing in either core or ML...

I've had similar issues with this in RMU, and I think that players of both systems will continue to ask this precise question until the rules are clarified. I guess HARP is where this size system is coming from?

Unless something is done, my houserule will be the same as Dagorhir's. I will also add the 'light' property to light weapons, including shortsword, light mace, light flail, etc., which means that they can be wielded in one hand by creatures one size smaller.
