Hmm does it really matter? I can port it in to which ever game... just give me relevant stats.

Technically I am using an Amalgam of several systems of ICE. Rolemaster, Spacemaster 2ed, Some Privateers, Some of some other supplements...

So give me what ya got :-)

Sure it matters, since many if not most of the skills in Privateers don't exist in SM2.

But since that doesn't apply to you:

Operating Equipment.

If the device is user friendly enough, I'd let them substitute Space Pilot or Alien Environment (Zero G) in its place, if they preferred.

I know there are a couple of skills in SM:P but I do not remember their names right now but I will look for them when I have more time. If I do not get back to you by next Friday send me a PM and I will do it then.
For SM2 you might want to send TerryT a PM as he has done a lot of stuff with that system over the years.

Why not atmospheric piloting: speciality jetpack and space piloting: jetpack. I don't think that both space and atmos should be allowed with same skill. At least one should be default and the other should get negative mod (-20?).

One of my players wanted to modify gravchute (gravitic parachute) to work as jet pack. He had point - gravchute is able to slow down orbital drops --> enough power. To modify it to use microreactor (for longer periods) and add flight control... I just helped my self and didn't allow it with available tools and spare parts. He turned it to a  ships propulsion system.

I was/am going to have it be another category of driving piloting air/spaceborne vehicle (unless some one directs me to something better)

It just didn't fit into any of the other vehicle subcategories of that group:
(Hover Craft, Choppers, Prop Planes, Jet Planes, Orbital Shuttles,
Small Space Ships, Large Space ships)
So I was looking to see if there was a category or skill that already covered this, or if I should just create a New category.  Would have thought a space game would have had it covered though :-)

In my RMSS/P game I used Armor Heavy: Powered Assault or Operating Equipment : Space Suit but in a modern game I have also had a player take jet pack even though it was not that prevalent.
Alien Environment restricts combat skills like riding does.
TT: Pro :Ships Crew is also one I have used as a catch all for many future starship/space type skills
TT: Vehicles: Jet Pack could also be a subdivision if you would like.

Sorry for the vague answer as to when I could get back to you but I hurt my back and have had to spend most of the day in bed and it looks like most of next week as well.

Actually I added the Jet Pack skill as it did/does not exist except in Black Op's (IIRC) but Ships Crew should cover the skill as it has all things to do with star ships crew profession.

Hmm don't think "Ships crew" was in 2nd edition and I don't think I ported that one into the game I am currently running. Not a big fan of "catch all" skills.

think I will just add the category of "Personal Propulsion Packs" to Air/Space borne Piloting skills.

I would just use RM2 Flying/gliding skill. The tech should be reasonably tranparent to someone for that era.
Gatekeeper to the Under-Dark: "Why are you seeking passage?"
Kal-El pauses in thought (briefly contemplating how to manage the Never Lie and Always Deceive curses on him), "I came to conquer all know-able universes".
Gatekeeper: You may pass.
Gatekeeper: Who are you?
Kal El: A tourist

Flying likely uses wings (and gliding certainly does), so you are interacting with air (allowing banking, turning, etc), and you have gravity to deal with. With personal propulsion in space, there's nothing to turn against, only inertial thrust, and you probably don't have gravity either. I wouldn't consider the two at all similar. I would think it would be closer to piloting a spacecraft (same principles, smaller mass), or if there is a skill for maneuvering in zero g that would make sense too.

I agree with JDale on that account. Even with a Earth bound Jet Pack.. your still dealing with Inertial and gravitational forces more than "Gliding" and wind currents. Not the same thing.

The reason I gave the RM:P skills is that you said you were playing in a combo game, I do not know of any SM2 skills that fit the description you are asking and if you are using the SM2 DP rule set as written then I might fold it into any "future" armor skill you use or other skill.

IIRC this question came up in past with another poster about SM2 and at the time Rasyr the game rule's guy made the suggestion that it should be free or included in some other training do to the limited amount of DP.
Now there is nothing saying you cannot add a skill but as you well know DP is always a rare commodity in any version of RM/SM and might have to be adjusted accordingly.

Yeah, that's why I kept my "author's answer" to existing skills.

Yes, I understand those limitations in a "Normal" Rolmaster/Spacemaster game.

Though in my games, I give DP for all stats, though I limit the use of DP to be spent on skill only that involve those stats (Can only spend DPs from strength of skills that involve strength) with the exception of Reasoning and Memory DP which are universal DPs.

This Allows Players a Bit more Development freedom without allowing them to much ability to Munchkinize by Point dumping in one area. So characters end up being more well rounded.

As for the folding of games, Yes, My Basis is More RM2/SM 2 oriented Skill system wise.. But as I see things that aren't covered in the older versions(that I like), whether it be skills, equipment or otherwise, I port/convert them into my games and try to balance them with other things.
