Druid or animist plant attack spell?
« on: September 12, 2017, 10:35:44 AM »
I was putting together an encounter for my players, and want the opponent to entangle them in the grass. Obviously, I can make up an attack for that, but if there's a spell already, I'd use that. But I can't find one. Anyone know if there was such a spell in a Companion and I'm missing it?

Companion V has some additional Druid lists and Natures Summons, 18th level Plant Summons III allows the druid to summon plants including carnivorous plants capable of trapping a full grown man.

Perfect, thanks! I scanned the "Plant" entries in the RCV index, but didn't think "summons" was what I was looking for. As awesome as that spell index is, there's really no easy way to look for a spell effect you want, if you don't know the name.

Hmm, I missed the "18th level" part on first read. I'm thinking something much less powerful - just a 10' radius, low OB grapple attack type of entangle, to use the term from D&D. If it's more limited than a Hold spell, it shouldn't have to be 18th level.
I also mis-referenced the spell list index, that's in VII.

The Druid base list Tree Mastery (Rolemaster Companion I, p. 22) has two spells that might be what you are looking for: Wall of Thorns at level 13, and Tangle Weed at level 15.

Those do seem to be rather high level though. I thought there was something lower level than that, but couldn't find it.

Could you perhaps have been thinking of RMU? In RMU, the Druid base list Nature's Wrath has the level 3 spell Entangling Vegetation.

My "Flora Mastery" list on my BASil project has Entanglement at 2nd level.

Essence Companion has the list Stone Mastery.  It has spells like Earth Fingers, Earth Hand, and Earth Arm which might provide the effects you want.  Instead of stone, you could just rename it Plant Fingers, Hand, etc.
Or just include the list Stone Mastery as an Animist/Druid list.
