Business Savvy?
« on: January 25, 2008, 11:15:00 AM »
Hi.  In the next month I might need a real professional business plan to show the SBA.  Anyone business school guys out there feel like helping me design one and maybe do the writing?  Any help would be appreciated.  I don't know for a fact if I'll need it, but in case I do, I thought I'd put out feelers.

PM me if you have the skills and would like to volunteer.  :)

While it is a "Dummies" book it was required reading for my Venture Capital class in grad school.  I still have it on my shelf at home.  It provides useful guidance on how to develop and write a business plan.  If you have no experience with business plans then I highly recommend it.

I don't remember if this is addressed in the book but you might also want to work on your "5-minute pitch."  Basically, when trying to get money from a financier you should be able to summarize your business model, products, required investment, and (most importantly) how you will recoup that investment (return on investment) in a 5-minute pitch.  This speech determines whether the venture capitalist wants to hear anymore about your business idea.  Anyway, I am not sure if the SBA will need to hear this sort of thing since I think they deal mostly in loans, but just an FYI.

I had one tentative contact, but he's pretty busy and I don't want to take too much of his time.  I got the dummies book today.  I really need to wow the SBA for a mico-loan or some such.  :)

Another thing you migh also look for is I know in CA they had Small Bis packet/book that I picked up at Costco. It had all the stuff for CA, requirements, forms, info etc. Unfortantly I do not know what I did with it as my back flaired up and I had to go infor an operation and decided I was going to go a different route. I know CA is a bigger state than UT but so their might not be as much stuff out thier.

Good Luck
