If I have Privateers, do I need anything from SM2?

Let's just say I like SM:P, because I do, is there anything from SM2 I should grab from DTRPG? Not to replace SM:P but to supplement it? Or does SM:P basically cover the same ground?

The only thing that SM:P does not have is a set of vehicle combat rules, so you can adapt the SM2 Star Strike and Armored Assault rules to SM:P. But note the ship construction rules are different in SM2 and SM:P.

SM:P does cover vehicle combat, but not with the detail Star Strike or Armored Assault did.

SM:P is good to go all by itself, though Robotics Companion is an absolute must imo.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Thanks for the answers guys :)

What is Robotics Companion? I don't see it listed in the SM2 section of DTRPG.

It isn't the Tech Law: Robotics Manual is it? If so I have that. I think I have all the SM:P books, there were 7 right?

I remember being quite happy with the vehicle combat back when I ran my SM:P game.

Yes it is.

SM:P is a big favorite of mine.  So sad no new materials followed.

Yes but IIRC the starship combat rules in SM:P are very basic and not hex base at all. In fact IIRC R. Defendi said that there was to be a StarStrike like book for SM:P but it just did not happen.

Yeah, we had a more advanced system planned but we never got to it. I wrote up Silent Death conversions, and that's what I used through most of playtesting.
