Monster Orientation Rolls
« on: March 23, 2017, 05:05:11 PM »
I know the answer is going to be 'GM Fiat' but I'm wondering how people normally handle orientation rolls for monsters that are forced to make them...what with monsters not having non-combat stats and stuff... ;(

Over time I have assigned non-combat skills to all monsters. Most creatures would have instincts/proficiency in things like Climbing, Alertness, Observation, Sense Awareness, etc.

So, yes, sadly GM fiat.

The bonuses I assign for any given creature do not rely on any overly complicated formula, just what "feels right" to me after running Rolemaster for many years.

I'll admit that it's one of my biggest gripes...a skill based system where the foes don't have skills or even suggestions. And it never got fixed in any addition that I'm aware of.  >:(

I haven't checked, but surely RMU will correct the problem.

Now I have to go see for myself if it does.

RMU Creature Law builds monsters basically as characters, so they have skills. Perception is listed for each creature, along with relevant movement skills  and some other applicable skills.

I remember assigning either Fighter/Thief/Sorceror NPC level bonuses from one of the books where it split every profession up by 1/3/5/7/10/20th levels.

Can't remember which book that was but it was probably ChL/Core books.
