Title: Aging Characters
Post by: sulkow82 on December 29, 2016, 04:26:23 AM
Does anyone have advice on <<aging>> NPCs.  If I want an NPC who is at 5th or 10th level, etc.  what do I set their OB/DB to?  How about experience points, etc?

The RMSS rules (RMFRP probably too) contain a Master Character Table T-5.8 (on pg.112). This table contains OBs, DBs and other skill bonuses for NPCs at lvl. 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20. Perhaps this helps.

I don't really understand the question about XPs because, well, at 5th lvl. an NPC, just like any other character, will have between 50000 and 59999 XPs. If you set the level then the XP don't really matter and should just follow the normal XP to level table.

I also don't really get what the questions about OB/DB or XP have to do with aging characters. Of course we might assume that an older character has experienced more in his life and might have a higher level than a youngster. A very old character might OTOH suffer from deteriorating stats. So you might reduce stats a bit as you please for old characters. Some old RM Companion book IIRC also contained some rules for old characters.

Characters with higher levels tend to be older.  So, as they age (get older), their OB goes up (in theory if they continually fight).  Would that 15th level fighter be 30 years old... 40 or maybe 50 years old.  Also, good to know if I am working out their genealogy, (which I am the kind of GM to do for my major NPCs).  Does that character have children, or even grand children.

When I included XP, I was just kind of <<on a role>> however, OB/DB has a very practical use.  Not every evil encounter would be a monster.  What about an evil NPC which is a human fighter.  I would need to know the OB/DB of the evil NPC fighter if I am going to have them fight the PCs.  Right?  A significant portion of my campaign is city adventure.
