points cost for spells?
« on: December 16, 2014, 10:15:36 AM »
Call me spoon if you like, but I can't find the cost to learn spells. At the moment I'm assuming that you spend DP and they cost 2 per rank, is this right?
Many thanks.

Spells are treated like Skills. You are restricted to spells in the profession's Sphere and the Universal Sphere. Spell casting is under the skill category of Mystical Arts, so if the profession has that as a favored category, spells cost 2 DP per rank. Since any profession can pick up spells in the Universal Sphere, those professions without Mystical Arts, pick up Universal spells at 4 DP per rank.

Thank you trechriron, that all makes perfect sense.  I should have mentioned that in my assumption I was rolling up a spell caster.

Spoon. (Sorry, couldn't resist.  ;D )

Not playing at the moment.  But I'd like to get my group to play, which would be in person.
I'm still getting my head around the rules.  We have played Space Master in the past and I really liked it as a system.  HARP seems better for us as it is more streamlined and I find fantasy settings easier to get my head around.
I have another question if you don't mind.
In the spells section of the character sheet there is a section for Stats Bonus, but I can't remember where it tells me which are the relevant stats for each caster class.

Look at the Spell Casting skill. It's at the bottom of the description.

Tian, as a point of reference, which version of HARP are you using? I admit I had some difficulty finding which caster uses which two attribute mods in what I remember being called "HARP Revised" to avoid calling them editions. HARP Fantasy seems to have made that clearer.

trechriron, once again you make it seem so obvious.  Thank you!

Zhaleskra, I am using the latest version purchased at Dragonmeet 2 weeks back.  Last copyright date is 2011.
