Fire & Water
« on: May 27, 2008, 11:33:14 AM »
A couple of problems that seems to arise from time to time in my games and to which I cannot find a permanent solution.

- Drowning:
Besides a reference in the SoHK and one in RMSS Martial Law I couldn't find any clear rule for drowning, not even in my RMC and RMX books... So a character can hold his breath for his Co stat/10 rounds. And then? What happens? Does he istantly drown? Is there any way to improve a PC's breath holding ability (besides Chi powers)? Can anyone point me the right rule?

- Fire:
Are there rules about setting things on fire? If I have a wooden structure (or a structure made of another flammable material) does it automatically catch fire if it recieve a certain amount of fire damage? Is there a specific rule about it or should the GM came up with a solution case by case?
I suppose a magician might, he admitted, but a gentleman never could.

RMSS "GM Law" has something about drowning in it, I think.

RMC Spell Law has a section on damage to structures and the likelihood of things catching on fire.

I checked it (RMFRP version) but it doesn't have much infos than SoHK...

I don't own this one (yet)...  :'(

The RM2 drowning rule is in one of the numbered companions, along with starving, dehydration and other lingering deaths.

I don't know what it is about the drowning table, but we can never find it.  We have been playing RM2 as our main game and as a group for 20+ years, and we know the companions inside out. except this table.

strange but true ???

RMC VII I think.
"Drowning Efficiently" I think that's the name of the section.
It has a MERP Like Drowning Critical Table

for things catching fire, i give a 5% chance per crit level CUMALITIVE each round effected of catching fire. Plus a bonus or penalty based on marterial type and conditions (soaked down might give a -25% chance) paper would have a +50% chance. Light cloth might be +50% heavy cloth might only be +20%

you get the idea.

There's nothing about it in current publications? That's a thing that should be covered in th core book...  :-\

I currently hate giving any fixed dates for products as we have too often run into the problem where we give a date and then have Murphy go into overdrive to prevent such a date from being possible.
