Locating "Lost" Authors to Bring Back "Lost" Books
« on: September 09, 2011, 07:18:21 PM »
Hey Forum Members,

Many of you are aware, but some may not be, "Old" ICE (Charlton/Fenlon/Etc) went bankrupt, then became the "New" ICE under Mjolnir. In the process, a lot of work reverted to joint ownership of the author and ICE. . .meaning nobody could re-publish it, either in electronic or hardcopy form. . . .so for a lot of the old books, the only legal way to get a copy was to search Ebey.
The only way for these books to come back in printed or PDF form, is for the author to be located, and a deal worked out to clear the rights for use. . .so if there's any book you really want to see come back, and you see it on the list below. . .it's stuck in limbo until the author is located and a deal can be struck.
Since GCP began managing things, I was tasked with relocating these folks, and I have relocated some of them already. If this had been done two or three decades ago, it'd be a lot easier, since I have copies of old contact lists and correspondence including e-mails, phone numbers and addresses. . .unfortunately people move around quite a bit, and a number of these people are not still occupying the same physical or online real estate they were in in the 1980s or 1990s.
That information will be handy to confirm the identity of anyone who checks in to claim they are one of these people. (I'd prefer not to waste time with practical jokers, so no hoaxes please).
Take a look at the list, pass on the fact that we're looking to any of these folks if you know them, and ask them to contact Thom, Nicholas or Marc (me) either here on the foum or via e-mail. If you need a contact e-mail from one of us to send someone for this purpose, just ask. Of course, if you are one of these people, please let one of us know.
There's no need to bandy about people's private contact information here in a public forum, so if you have a lead on someone please send it to one of us via PM rather than post it as a reply into this thread. That said, feel free to ask any questions you might have.
Feel free to link to this post and spread the word that we're looking.

Thanks,
Marc Rosen

If any of these individuals have passed, do publishing rights revert to their estate?  Does it depend on the country?  (That is, if it becomes necessary, will heirs need to be contacted?)

We'll worry on estates if and when we find one has, unless you know of one who has?

I don't.  Just doing some math in my head (late 80's, figure authors in their 20's or 30's at time of writing, add some actuarial statistics...)  :(

If we think we've located one via google, we should just email them, or pass their website, etc, on to you?

Pass the ID on to Nicholas. . .. if a contact turns out to be correct, we'll cross the name off the list.

Also, did anyone post this list or link to it at rpg.net? I could link to it there, otherwise, maybe someone knows a name.

Keep in mind multiple author titles, for some, it might require more than one for a given title.

I assisted with RoCo VII and do not see my name; guess I found.

For which system would they be retooled.  (RM2, RMC or RMFRP).

I really wish that the new RoCoI had been re-balanced to prevent power creep.

I sent to Nicholas (years ago) an updated Shadow Mage for RMC(, reducing the power level). I never heard back.  I have verbal confirmation from Joel Thompson (still in same place).  He can be found on Facebook.  Matt Ellis is a little harder to reach.  It has been a few years since we last spoke, but I will try.

Rev. Scott

It all started with two men vs. three-hundred thousand orcs.

Yes, you've been found.

This isn't about retooling per se. It is about recovering the materials in their original form. Much of what existed in RM2 was revised / rewritten years ago for RMSS/FRP.

I still have your Shadow Mage for RMC in my archives, nothing is lost. It did not make sense at the time to push further ahead with the Compendium idea, so I merely paused proceedings. If you would prefer the updated version rather than the original to form part of the Rolemaster Compendium, then that is possible but should be discussed by email.

Best wishes,
Nicholas

Hmmm, I was thinking of posting in Tabletop Roleplaying Open to see if anyone knows those people, games with them, etc.

Btw, "Imperial Crisis: House Devon in Trouble" should read "Imperial Crisis: House Devon in Turmoil".

Though "Trouble" is pretty funny.

I just found an Earl Wajenburg on FB. He seems to be the right age and professional bearing and could have authored Mythic Egypt. I sent a polite message with the link. I hope it helps.
