Here's the set up. I was running a game for my friends, mostly new players and I gave them a lot of wiggle room for character creation. Dominic, a good friend of mine, decided he wanted to play a theif with some real mental problems and other strangeness.
After much deliberation he ended up with a extremely A.D.D., O.C.D., cleptomaniac theif that was also an animal shape changer. The kicker was that he had forgotten how to change shape and what shapes he could change into. (I created a list of animals he could change into but didn't show it to him). I told him that at any given time he could use 100% action to attempt to change into an animal. If he chose one he could do and open-ended I'd allow the change.
So this thief finds himself about to enter battle with the rest of the party. He's been turned invisible and he's stalking the enemy scout. He passes his stalking manuever beatifully, gets behind the guy and declares an ambush attack. He passes his ambush check cleanly and rolls for the attack. He rolls one number over a fumble. Clean miss. So much so, that the stationary scout (he was looking out for the party) didn't notice him become visible behind him. Freezing still and thanking God for his luck, he decides to try to turn into a bear and maul the guy. Fail. Scout still doesn't notice him. Tries to turn into a tiger. Fail. Finally the scout starts to turn around and in a panic, the thief attacks with his rapier scoring an E puncture critial. Rolls a 100. Instant death through the eye.
So the scene was: Sneak, sneak, sneak. Swing and a miss. Pause-grrr, pause-grrr, oh crap! Straight through the eye.
10 mins and 20 combined rolls between us just to kill one scout.
Good times.
